Jim Shannon began his professional career in the U.S. Navy in 1981 deploying first to the Western Pacific, then across the globe in various positions where he gained a world view that ultimately led him to become the Deputy Assistant Secretary of the Navy for International Programs between 2013 to 2016. With command experience at sea and ashore, he retired from active duty as a Rear Admiral.
As a leader in the Department of the Navy’s Acquisition Work Force for nearly 15 years, Jim gained a reputation as someone who can proficiently and reliably solve complex program challenges. With his proven record of success and results oriented perspective, he demonstrated high performance and best value in diverse military programs ranging from missions in missile defense to counter IED threats. His strong background in classified system integration, weapon system architecture, and international policy solved problems for U.S. leaders. He also advised dozens of leaders across the world, among 40 different countries and international partners, where Jim personally coordinated international maritime solutions for local and regional security problems.
He holds a Bachelor of Science degree from the United States Naval Academy and advanced Master Degrees in Telecommunication Systems Management and National Security, Strategic Studies. Jim was also a Fellow in National Security from The Maxwell School of Citizenship and Public Affairs, Syracuse University.
